At Marwood, our kiln is usually filled with live edge hardwood slabs and wood turning chunks drying out in preparation to be sold. We kiln dry all of our hardwood products on-site at our facility in Jeffersonville, IN.
Wood is dried for woodworking to help prevent warping and splitting to any slabs that have the potential to be used in projects. Most wood needs to have a balanced wood to water relationship. In order for wood to achieve that balance, it will absorb moisture from the air to increase the amount of water to wood or desorb it to increase the amount of wood to water. By kiln-drying the wood used at Marwood for live edge hardwood slabs, we control the environment in which wood reaches that balance and in doing so, prevents damage to the wood.
Kiln-drying is a crucial part of our hardwood production process. Quality is Marwood’s #1 priority and our on-site kiln helps us to achieve the best quality possible.
