Marwood’s roots in production of lumber and veneer stretch nearly a century. After initially originating out of Louisville, KY, Marwood transplanted its roots over to Jeffersonville, IN in 1984.
In 2013, after recognizing a need left unfulfilled in the market for access to responsibly sourced yet reasonably priced live edge hardwood slabs, Marwood Manufacturing propagated its offering and production began.
Recently, the demand for live edge hardwood slabs has increased among woodworkers, business owners, and homeowners alike. Those looking for a functional piece of art that seamlessly brings indoors a touch of the outdoors can accomplish this utilizing the natural beauty that is unique to each slab. ABOUT SLABS & USAGE DETAILS
Each hardwood slab produced by Marwood Manufacturing is as unique as the next. The beauty of these slabs is then transformed into functional art of varying forms. Guided by the deft hands of expert woodworkers, our slabs are utilized as dining room tables, coffee tables, work benches, desks, bar tops, dressers, countertops, shelving, and more. The list can extend as far as your imagination.
Our live edge hardwood slabs function splendidly both as a staple piece to highlight the beauty of the room or to blend seamlessly with your design for a more cohesive feel. With a natural beauty that stands the test of time, you can be sure that your live edge pieces will always be in style.
Our hardwood slabs are predominately locally sourced along with a selective offering of more exotic varieties. A few of the species you can expect to find in our warehouse are Ambrosia Maple, Box Elder, Cherry, Elm, Gum, Maple Burl, Oak, Redwood, and Walnut. THE PROCESS
While there may still be debate on if it was the chicken or the egg, we at Marwood Manufacturing can say with certainty that the whole log comes before the live edge hardwood slab. These logs of varying lengths and circumferences are often milled on site to a thickness ranging between 1 and 4 inches. Once in live edge slab form, our slabs go through a carefully mapped process of air drying to kiln drying to on deck to sanded by request.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Found a live edge slab you love but you’re worried it’s too thick to suit your project?
No need to worry! Our on-site, 36” wide, belt finish sander planer using 80 grit sandpaper is great for adjusting thicknesses! Between you and me, it’s also great for just knocking a few grueling hours of hand sanding off your project.
Buying multiples and wanting the grain and crotch of your live edge slab to match consistently?
We’ve got ya covered. Our hardwood slabs can be bought in sequence for a more cohesive feel.
